Stems up to 50 cm, strongly branched, with numerous short sterile side-branches, in older parts high up ligneous, with dark greyish bark, parts of the current year 4−10 cm, very densely covered with white and, especially toward the nodes, with black hairs 0.5−0.8 mm, sometimes glabrescent with age. Stipules 2.5−4 mm, narrowly triangular to ovate, adnate to the petiole for 0.5−1 mm, densely covered with white and black hairs. Leaves of the sterile brachyblasts 1−2 cm, those of the main stem 2−5 cm, all subsessile; rachis loosely to rather densely hairy like the stem, glabrescent with age. Leaflets in (4−)5−6 pairs, narrowly elliptic, 3−14 × 1−4 mm, obtuse to mostly acuminate, on both sides covered with white hairs 0.6−0.8 mm, sometimes glabrescent with age. Peduncles 3−9 cm. Racemes capitate, densely 8−12-flowered. Bracts c. 3 mm, membranous, narrowly triangular, covered with mostly subbasifixed to basifixed, spreading black hairs. Pedicels c. 0.5 mm, hairy. Calyx 10−12(−13) mm, tubular, strongly obliquely cut at the mouth, densely villous with ± spreading, curled white hairs c. 1 mm and, especially at the dorsal side, with bifurcate, subappressed, shorter black hairs; teeth subulate, unequal, the two upper c. 2 mm, the three lower 3−4 mm. Petals dingy violet.
