Podlech & Zarre (2013), vol. III, p. 2343Plants 6−15 cm tall, acaulescent or nearly so, forming large mats. Rootstock branched. Old stems up to 5 cm, densely covered with spiny remnants of old leaves; parts of the current year nearly absent. Stipules 2−2.5 mm, triangular, adnate to the petiole for c. 1 mm, otherwise free from each other, with very short, subappressed hairs. Leaves (3−)4−8.5 cm; petiole and rachis terete, from beginning subspiny to spiny, persistent, mostly without terminal leaflet, densely covered with medifixed, appressed white hairs 0.3 mm. Leaflets in 5−7 pairs, narrowly ovate to narrowly elliptic, 4−10 × 2−3 mm, subacute, on both sides densely hairy like the rachis. Peduncles 5−10 cm, densely hairy lik the rachis. Racemes 2−2.5 cm long. Bracts whitish-membranous, 1−2 mm, narrowly triangular, with white and black hairs. Calyx c. 10 mm, at anthesis tubular, early inflated and becoming globose-bladdery, densely covered with symmetrically to asynnetrically bifurcate white hairs 0.3−0.8 mm, glabrescent with age and often glabrous in fruit; teeth 1.5−2 mm. Petals violet. Standard 13 mm; blade elliptic, scarcely emarginate. Wings c. 12 mm; blades narrowly oblong, obtuse. Keel 10−11 mm. Legumes small, white hairy.
